I will never apologize for posting The Little Mermaid related things.

brain-food:

I wanted to forward some great free learning opportunities on. Standford’s offering a number of full semester Computer Science courses online for free. You can take a Stanford (or Berkley) class for free. You won’t get credit, but the key is to knowing this stuff anyways.

You can learn more about the course each professor will be teaching from the first link (if you click on the source or here) which will take you to an interview with the professor. Just scroll down the page and there are links at the bottom to the many other free courses Stanford will be offering.

Each of the links has a quick video from the teacher(s) that will be leading the course that explains the content. It seems to me there is something here for all our interests and expertise levels. Most of the start up dates for the classes are toward the end of January or beginning of February. Only a couple are slated for Jan 23rd/24th to begin. I actually signed up for a few myself.

Anyways, i thought you’d appreciate the free learning. And if computer science isn’t your thing, OpenCulture has over 400 free online courses from top universities. Theres literally everything offered of all varieties. They just put in “The Elements of Drawing” with video instructions from Oxford University. I’m taking a lot of these now just to keep my brain refreshed. A lot of new courses offered though, it used to be only 200.

Happy learning! (Standford computer science | openculture

THIS IS AWESOME!

"A myth, according to the Roman historian Suetonius, is something that never happened, but always is. A myth is a truthful lie. Myths deal nor with the facts of the world, but with our experience of those facts, tapping into strata of our psyche of which we are at best only partially conscious. Myths do not exist to be questioned: myths state what appears to those who reject the account, as risible.
The verification of a myth, on the other hand, is to be sought not in the world beyond, but within itself, in its power to persuade. Myths exist in order to persuade us of those things which we most want to know, giving meaning to what could not otherwise be explained. Myths can fill a gap and fulfil a need. Where a torch is lacking, we light the surrounding darkness with candles."

Robert Mullen, Call of the Camino.
"Well, you know the way I see it, if you’re here for four more years or four more weeks, you’re here right now. You know? And I think when you’re somewhere you ought to be there, and because it’s not about how long you stay in a place. It’s about what you do while you’re there, and when you go is that place any better for you having been there?"

Darth Vader Boy was the most fun ad from last year’s Super Bowl.  This preview ad is entertaining.

Excellent explanation of SOPA and PIPA by Salman Khan (founder of the Khan Academy).

Freestyle in Rio

If my imagination could expand just a little bit more, then this video is everything I would expect from a Brazilian freestyle futebol video. Beautiful Brazilian scenery and skills filled with high swank to spare. There are incomprehensible skills that simply give off an abstract aura of athleticism. Not to mention that any freestyle video that takes place on the Escadaria Selarón is just fine with me…

Manhattanhenge

“Who needs Stonehenge? New York has its own version of the ancient temple — the canyons between skyscrapers that create a solar phenomenon called “Manhattanhenge” four times a year.”

About Me

I live in Baltimore, but I'm from Brazil. Watermelon is my favorite fruit, but I can’t settle on any other “just one favorite” choices. I love volleyball, but I haven’t played in a while. I love books, but I don’t really read all the time. I avoid watching movies that I know will make me cry, but I end up crying watching the ones I didn’t think I would anyways. I love cooking, but the results of my cooking are always a surprise. I absolutely need a pillow between my legs to fall asleep at night, but for naps I’m fine without it. I think going to the movies alone is empowering, but sometimes it's just plain sad. I like to think I’m not addicted to coffee, but if I don’t have any at least once a day I have withdrawal symptoms. I love dresses, but I don’t own a single one. I’m trying to figure things out, these are the ones I was able to do it so far. I’m still working on all the other ones. If you want to talk to me: grazielebb at yahoo dot com, feel free!
